Wroute Inc. launches frequent all-electric passenger service between Waterloo Region and Guelph.
New service intends to address climate change, connect communities, and empower passengers.
Kitchener, ON – With transportation a key factor in some of the world’s most entrenched social and environmental
challenges, newly launched local start up Wroute Inc. has announced its commitment to addressing the region’s
own transportation challenges. The first offering from Wroute is a service for up to six passengers at a time,
between Kitchener’s Fairview Park Mall and Guelph Central Station.
With local residents making more than 50,000 daily one-way journeys between Waterloo Region and Guelph,
Wroute stands to provide the community with an eco-friendly, station-to-station service that improves links to
trains, buses, and other mobility services. “Our approach with smaller vehicles and high frequency will fill in the
gaps and encourage passengers to make use of all the existing alternatives to driving alone”, says Jason Hammond,
Wroute owner and president. “For instance, by combining our service with light rail transit and a few minutes of
cycling, zero-emission journeys can extend across all of Kitchener, Waterloo, and Guelph.”
With a fleet of 10 all-electric Tesla Model X 100D vehicles, Wroute will depart the two stations every 15 minutes,
equating to more than 1000 weekly trips. Passengers will make their reservations online in advance and enjoy a
cashless, quiet, non-stop experience. The cost of a trip will be $20 ($17.70 +HST) and take up to 45 minutes,
depending on the very traffic conditions the company seeks to improve. Up to two bicycles are also welcome on
board. Full service will commence on September 22nd to coincide with World Car Free Day. “By better connecting
our communities, and providing full-time salaried positions to our vehicle operators, we are looking for a serious
boost to economic development in the places we call home.” notes Hammond.
